OpenAI calls for coordinated cyber defense, Anthropic connects AI agents to programmable equipment, and Google gives developers more control over generated video.
This edition centers on three specific uses of AI: defending digital systems, coordinating programmable equipment, and giving developers more control over generated video.
OpenAI published a joint call to action, Anthropic opened a limited research preview, and Google made a production-ready update available through its developer tools and paid products.
OpenAI published an open letter calling for a global surge in cyber defense. Its signatories include companies and organizations from technology, cybersecurity, finance, communications, health, and other sectors.
The letter says unpatched software, excessive permissions, weak authentication, misconfigurations, and technical debt leave organizations exposed. It asks leaders to treat cyber defense as an immediate priority, fix high-risk weaknesses, and verify the results.
For cybersecurity and technology companies, the letter recommends continuous testing, wider access to AI-assisted defense, shared threat intelligence, and tested playbooks. It asks governments to fund defense for essential services and expand trusted access to defensive AI capabilities.
For frontier AI companies, it calls for responsible model access, funding, training, observability tools, authorized testing, private disclosure, and verified fixes. Its prediction that AI-enabled attacks will become more widespread and sophisticated is a forward-looking statement from the signatories.
Anthropic opened a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard, or MHS, for selected scientific labs and advanced manufacturers. The shared specification lets AI agents coordinate programmable equipment such as microscopes, liquid handlers, robotic arms, and precision lasers.
Anthropic says MHS can reduce custom integration work from weeks or months to hours or minutes. An agent can operate several instruments in parallel, update parameters during a workflow, and sometimes recover from hardware errors without human intervention.
MHS is model-agnostic and works with devices that have a programmable interface. An agent harness can access it through protocols such as Model Context Protocol.
Anthropic says the partner preview will be used to build safety evaluations and best practices before the standard is open sourced. Access is by application, and the announcement does not list pricing.
Google released Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash as a production-ready update for developers through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio. The release adds more controls for creating and editing generated video.
Scene extension analyzes up to 10 seconds of earlier context and can extend a video in 10-second increments, up to a cumulative 40 seconds. First-and-last-frame interpolation lets developers define the start and end of a transition.
Google says 360p draft previews are up to 60% faster, based on system throughput, and cost one-third as much as standard 720p output. Developers can upscale results to 1080p or 4K and provide up to three seconds of reference video to help maintain visual context.
The model is available in Google AI Studio and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform through the API. Google also made it available to AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in Flow, with scene extension in the Gemini app for those paid tiers.

Planetary Prediction Engine turns natural-language requests into geospatial models by finding, combining, and testing Earth data automatically. Authors report higher average accuracy than expert baselines, including 76.8% versus 60.0% across 21 U.S. health indicators and 83.3% outbreak recall. The results suggest faster specialized forecasting, but remain author-reported across new settings.
AsymSpec speeds agentic language models by letting a small draft model read full context while the larger verifier sees a compressed version. Across four capabilities and two agent benchmarks, authors report about 90% of full-context accuracy, 1.3–1.7× throughput, and 20–30% of compute cost. Independent replication is still needed before deployment.
LocalLSTC keeps a GUI agent’s long-term subgoal and evidence separate from its immediate action plan, reducing repeated reconstruction during desktop tasks. With Qwen3.6-27B, authors report 64.7% on OSWorld and 65.3% on WindowsAgentArena, exceeding prior local results. The training-free design could make smaller, locally run agents more reliable without cloud models.

Google released Gemini 3.5 Transcribe for live and recorded speech-to-text. The model detects more than 85 languages, handles language switching, and supports smart formatting and custom vocabulary; speaker labels and word-level timestamps are available only for recorded files.
Recorded requests support up to one hour of audio, or 30 minutes when speaker labels or timestamps are enabled. Google notes that timestamps can reduce accuracy and that attribution for three or more speakers is experimental.
The Information reported that Nvidia agreed to buy Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, citing a person familiar with the deal. Reuters said neither company immediately commented. The transaction and price remain unconfirmed by the companies.
Anthropic opened 10,000 Claude seats for scientists for one year. Standard seats are free, while premium seats with five times the usage limit cost $15 per month; principal investigators or equivalent leaders at academic or nonprofit research institutions must verify eligibility. Anthropic says it plans to expand the program beyond the first 10,000 seats.
In a randomized experiment with more than 1,000 first-year Bocconi students, ChatGPT access raised human-graded marketing work by almost one point on a five-point scale. Separate causal-reasoning training increased the variety and distinctiveness of ideas; students receiving both showed both patterns. The study involved one university, one assignment, GPT-4o, and OpenAI collaboration.
OpenAI launched commercial operations in São Paulo and announced programs with universities, researchers, small businesses, legal professionals, and the city government. The company says Brazil is among ChatGPT’s three largest weekly markets, with about 215 million messages sent daily.
OpenAI also says Brazil is its second-largest API developer market and that weekly Codex users there have grown more than elevenfold since the start of 2026.
