They published an update on their “Drug Design Engine” (IsoDDE), and the headline isn’t just “we can predict shapes.” It’s “we can predict the stuff you actually need to make drugs.”

A few claims that stood out:

  • Protein + drug binding poses: they say IsoDDE more than doubles Google DeepMind’s AlphaFold 3 accuracy on a tough generalization benchmark (“Runs N’ Poses”), meaning it’s better when the target + pocket + ligand are unfamiliar, not just “seen before.”

  • Binding affinity: they claim it can predict how strongly a molecule binds with accuracy that exceeds physics-based gold standards, but faster/cheaper.

  • Finding new pockets from sequence: it can identify novel binding pockets using only amino-acid sequence, aiming to surface “where could a drug bind?” without a known ligand.

Why I think this matters: AlphaFold-style wins helped us see biology. This is them arguing they can help you choose and optimize molecules—closing the gap between “cool structure” and “actionable drug program.”

OpenAI says Deep Research is getting:

  • the ability to focus research on specific websites and use a larger set of connected apps as trusted sources

  • a new sidebar + fullscreen report view

  • a research plan you can create/edit before it runs

  • better progress tracking and the ability to adjust direction mid-run

They also say it’s rolling out to Plus and Pro first, then Free/Go shortly after.
OpenAI’s own Deep Research page frames the update similarly: connect to more apps (including MCP) and restrict browsing to trusted sites, with more real-time control.

Why I care about this one: “Deep research” is most useful when you can steer it. Website whitelists + editable plans are basically “less wandering, more intention.”

Tony Wu, one of the co-founders of Elon Musk’s xAI, has announced he is leaving the company.

Wu is actually the fifth co-founder to depart since xAI launched, which is a pretty high turnover rate for such a young company. In his farewell note, he was gracious, thanking the team and the "warrooms," but he hinted at his next chapter: leading a small team "armed with AIs" to move mountains.

It’s a good reminder that even with massive backing (and the recent news of xAI folding into SpaceX), the talent wars in AI are personal and fluid. It will be interesting to see where he—and the other former co-founders—end up next.
