The White House has imposed strict export controls on Anthropic’s powerful new AI model, "Mythos," and its consumer counterpart, "Fable 5." The Trump administration directed the company to restrict access strictly to U.S. citizens after suspicions arose that a China-linked group had accessed the system.

  • The Security Threat: Mythos was initially released in April to a very tight group because of its unique capability to find deep bugs in computer code. In the hands of malicious hackers or state actors, it could be weaponized to exploit systemic vulnerabilities. If China were to distill or reverse-engineer the model, it would pose a significant national security risk.

  • The "Jailbreak" Catalyst: A jailbreak—a method to bypass a model's safety guardrails—was discovered in the consumer-facing Fable 5. According to reports, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy flagged the vulnerability directly to the White House.

  • Anthropic's Drastic Response: Because the government mandate required limiting use only to U.S. citizens (which would even lock out Anthropic's own foreign-national employees), Anthropic chose to completely pull both models from the market rather than attempting to enforce the citizenship mandate.

  • The Fallout: The incident has sparked a war of words. Presidential adviser David Sacks publicly accused Anthropic of prioritizing consumer rollout over safety. Anthropic countered that they strictly prohibit access from within China and claimed the White House never directly raised the China issue with them during discussions about the jailbreak.

Google DeepMind has just published a massive 60-page research roadmap titled "From AGI to ASI," authored by top AI scientists including Shane Legg and Marcus Hutter. The paper argues that human-level Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is just a temporary milestone, and outlines exactly how machines will evolve into Artificial Superintelligence (ASI).

The Important Details:

  • Defining the Benchmarks: The paper defines AGI as hitting the median human level on most cognitive tasks. ASI is a much higher bar: a system that can reliably outperform tens of thousands of top human experts seamlessly collaborating on a single problem for a decade.

  • The Four Pathways to ASI:

    1. Scaling: Throwing exponentially more compute, data, and larger models at the problem.

    2. Paradigm Shifts: Discovering entirely new algorithmic architectures beyond current neural networks.

    3. Recursive Self-Improvement: AI automating its own research, leading to faster and faster intelligence explosions.

    4. Multi-Agent Collectives: Superintelligence emerging from millions of human-level AI agents coordinating like an automated economy.

  • The Bottlenecks Ahead: The transition won't be seamless. The researchers highlight "The Data Wall" (running out of high-quality human training data by the end of the decade), crippling energy and infrastructure costs, and the "Abstraction Barrier"—the challenge of getting an AI to invent entirely novel concepts that don't exist in its training data.

To bridge the gap between having a powerful AI model and actually generating business value, OpenAI has launched the OpenAI Partner Network. Backed by a $150 million investment, the initiative aims to build a massive global ecosystem of consultants, integrators, and strategists to deploy OpenAI's frontier models inside major enterprises.

The Important Details:

  • The Goal: OpenAI plans to train and enable 300,000 certified AI consultants by the end of 2026 to help organizations redesign workflows, integrate systems, and manage corporate AI adoption.

  • Heavy-Hitting Partners: The network is launching alongside the world's biggest consulting and tech integration firms, including Accenture, Bain, BCG, McKinsey, PwC, and Eliza.

  • Three-Tier System: Partners will be graded into Select, Advanced, and Elite tiers based on their technical capabilities and deployment experience. They can also earn specializations in high-impact areas like cybersecurity and AI agents.

  • "Forward Deployed" Experts: For highly complex corporate integrations, OpenAI is piloting a program that embeds partner practitioners directly with OpenAI's internal engineering teams, sharing playbooks and native expertise to ensure massive enterprise deployments don't fail.

Most AI tests assume a frozen environment, but reality constantly shifts. Researchers created EvoArena, a new test measuring how well AI adapts to changing rules over time. They also built EvoMem, a memory system that tracks these updates progressively, helping AI remember past changes and significantly boosting its overall adaptability.

Current AI tests look at computer skills in isolation. WeaveBench changes this with 114 complex tasks requiring AI to seamlessly mix visual clicking, typing text commands, and writing code on a real desktop. The best models pass just 41 percent, proving that true computer automation remains a massive, unsolved challenge.
